      The perfect man. Funny, smart…and loves to bake, My needs are few and I found him! I had the best time talking with David Arrick, author of the Butch Bakery Cookbook. And darn it, happily married with a 19 month old son. Ah well…but I digress. The book is just a plain boozy blast, with not your usual cupcake recipes. Think Mojito Soaked Lime Cupcakes, the Jack Daniels, and an Old Fashioned that is anything but! David went from the fun and games of Wall St, to real estate in Dubai, and finally, to the bakery. An interesting trip with the best ending, the creation of The Butch Bakery in New York. David is currently looking for a new location for the bakery, but bookmark his site now!

   What I love about David’s creative process is that his baking toolbox uses the big muffin tins for his cupcake recipes. That’s what I do! And I appreciate the fact that he offers his List of Strategies and Procedures (how very Wall St) which pretty much amounts to read the recipe first, then bake. Yep, duh! It’s a good cookbook, with an edge and attitude. I like that. You’ll especially love the section on tailgating since we’re into baseball and might be looking to bring something that will really hit a home run with the rest of the gang; you know I love the combination of salt and caramel, and David’s recipe will not disappoint. Check out Tailgate on page 95. So yummy.  What are some of his favorites? David told me how much he loves the combination of chocolate and spice, as in cayenne; see page 74 and the Really Hot Dog.

   The Butch Bakery was a success from the beginning and currently, David is shopping around lower Manhattan for a new space. But don’t worry, you can always go online and see what has made me such a fan. David has already won Best Cake In The Country from The Food Network, and I’m sure that’s not the last kudo we’ll see.
