Alton Brown and I have a lot in common; we both want to know the "why" of what we love to do - cook! His Peabody award winning "Good Eats," the show that introduced me to Alton, is heading into its’ 15th year on Food Network. So, the oh-so-coolness of melding the science of food and the glorious geekiness of what makes Alton the food guru he is, will continue to make me say "oh, so that’s why" something else I’ve managed to mangle in the kitchen happened. But not to be repeated, thanks to Alton. How can you not love man who learned what he knew from his mother and grandmother, and turned it around to help get dates in college?! Alton is a multi-talented guy, and I think that’s what makes him so interesting, and so successful at what he does; he spent ten years behind the scenes as a cinematographer and video director. And it was that creativity that made him realize that the cooking shows he liked were kind of on the dull side and didn’t give enough info. So it was off to the New England Culinary Institute, and the creation of Good Eats and all that followed. Alton has been nominated for a James Beard Award for best cookbook in the Tools and Techniques category (I just love that - visions of power tools in the kitchen!), his books are New York Times bestsellers list, and yes, he’s a true family guy living near Atlanta, Georgia with is wife and daughter.

Fab news for all fellow foodies! Alton has "Good Eats 3: The Later Years" out now, and like Alton himself, it’s highly entertaining. The best cookbook for my taste is one that reads like a great novel, with suspense, fun and a delicious ending. It’s all in "Good Eats 3" with more than 200 recipes, more of the behind-the-scenes stuff we just can’t get enough of, along with those valuable science of food tidbits, food facts, trivia and just plain fun. I loved looking through this substantial addition to my library, and I know you will as well. And if you’d like to meet this motorcycle riding culinary master who can also be seen on Food Network on "Iron Chef," "Feasting On Asphalt," "Feasting On Waves," and "Next Iron Chef," plan to get in line early at Books A Million in Brandon Thursday in Brandon Town Center Mall. Alton will sign copies of the new cookbook starting at 7 pm.

So here’s what Kelly’s Kitchen would love to do for you; tell me your favorite Alton Brown moment, memory, or mess! We’ll award ten lucky winners their very own copy of "Good Eats 3," and one grand prize winner will receive the complete Alton Brown cookbook collection, worth over $200!  Send those along to me at ann.kelly@coxmg.com, or post them on Facebook (you will have to "like" Magic 94.9 to do that) by this Thursday at 5 pm, and we’ll choose ten winners at random, and from those, choose one grand prize winner. I can’t wait to hear from you!
