Who doesn’t love cupcakes? In Kelly’s Kitchen we know that nice, single serving keeps the guilt factor low (even if you do indulge in more than one) and they come in more flavors than you could ever imagine. I was working at my desk this morning, when my coworker John came around with a selection of cupcakes his girlfriend had made. Can I say it was one delish little dish?! Moist, rich chocolate cake, sweet chocolate frosting complete with a white chocolate swirl, with a filling that was a very nice surprise. And all that before lunch.

  But what about making a living off what you love. Ever thought of going into business with a family member? Not always easy, but the sweet success of sisters Katherine and Sophie Kallinis, stars of DC Cupcakes on TLC, will show you it can! I had a chance to talk with them, and it was no surprise we started off talking about what is most important in their lives. Listen to the interview here! It’s all about family, since they learned the secrets of great baking from Greek grandmother Beebe. But she gave them more than recipes; she gave them the strength to make their dreams come true. From the humble beginnings of Georgetown Cupcakes, to the hit series DC Cupcakes, they now sell somewhere around 10,000 cupcakes a day! And they have some pretty famous fans as well, like basketball star LeBron James who loves their red velvet, and first daughter Sasha Obama who actually had her birthday party at DC Cupcakes

   You’ll want to add their first book, “The Cupcake Diaries” to your must-have list. It’s a book that’s packed with memories, wonderful recipes, and a tremendous sense of the importance of family. Make sure to catch the Katherine’s wedding on TLC – “DC Cupcakes, My Sweet Wedding” with the premier Friday night at 10 pm. Can you imagine a nine foot tower of cupcakes? There’s a lot of drama but even more of that sisterly love.
