Five Fun Things for August!

Happy August!
Happy August!

August? How did it get to be August already?  Well, since we’re dealing with the heat, the humidity and everything else that make Tampa Bay the paradise that it is, let’s start the month off with Five Fun Things From Kelly’s Kitchen!

  1. Spanx are so yesterday…thanks to Lytess caffeine pants. Yes, I said caffeine pants. This new product says that by simply wearing these, you’ll lose inches from your waist hips and thighs. Supposedly, it’s the caffeine and shea butter they infuse into the material that makes them work. I think it would make them smell. How much? Between $50-$75 a pair. I checked out the site and also found leggings, tank tops and sleeves.
  2. Who knew? Black bears and doughnuts go together, at least as far at wildlife officers in Oklahoma know. Guess they have a small problem with overpopulation, and they’ve found the most effective bait is a doughnut. No bears are harmed, some are tagged and tracked and they take fur and tissue samples for DNA analysis. They’re doing this with 200 bait stations…that’s going to be one incredible drive through order at Dunkin'!
  3. Ever think of tomatoes or watermelons as a sunscreen? Yep, researchers say the antioxidants in some foods can help reduce damage to skin. The addition of fruits like watermelon, dark berries, and veggies like the red and orange peppers and yellow squash have what you’re looking for when it comes to antioxidants. No, don't stop using the sunscreen!
  4.  How about this! New study says when you pay with cash versus  plastic, you're less likely to buy junk food. It's supposed to be psycholoigcally more painful to part with cash, so we don't mind walking past the the stuff we really shouldn't eat anyway when we're shopping with cash on hand. This healthy info courtesy of the fine researchers at Cornell University and the University of Buffalo.
  5. One week from today (August 8th) is National Happiness Happens Day, a day to celebrate those happy things that just seem to happen when we least expect it. The way we all work ourselves silly, maybe we need to slow down and appreciate those more. I intend to make my friends here happy with something special next Monday from Kelly's Kitchen.

Words of Wisdom from Kelly’s Kitchen:

The biggest seller is cookbooks and the second is diet books - how not to eat what you've just learned how to cook.  ~Andy Rooney
