Face it. It’s going to happen to even the most organized person in Kelly’s Kitchen. You’ll be prepping the feast and find you’re missing one key ingredient and you’re really not in the mood to head out and try to track it down. Or pay the price. So what do we do? I suggest keeping “Substituting Ingredients – The A to Z Kitchen Reference” right there in the kitchen at all times. Becky Sue Epstein joins us once again in Kelly’s Kitchen to save the day when something is missing, goes wrong or what you’d like to have is just too expensive. Here’s a good for instance. Those squares of baking chocolate you don’t use all that often? There’s a fix for that, and those expensive spice blends you’ve got to be crazy to overspend on? No problem! My favorite ones have always been the blends for pumpkin and apple pies. They’re easy to make and save a ton of cash.
But what do you do when something goes wrong and the taste is way off for any number of reasons like too much salt? Take Becky Sue’s advice and no one will be the wiser. And the one for shining up those copper pans is tremendous? Who knew that bottle of Heinz would come in so handy? Cleaning up is also a snap with her advice and you can eliminate a lot of the chemicals around the house at the same time. It’s a great little stocking stuff, published by Sourcebooks and will be welcome in anyone’s home. Glad I could share it with all of you, as well as our full interview.
