State investigators looking into how a man fell to his death in an elevator shaft at TIA have found the locking mechanism on that door was not working. They still don’t know exactly what happened when Chad Wolfe fell, but they know now the door could be opened by hand, and they describe it as “compromised.”

A man who allegedly drove right past a stopped school bus with the warning arm out struck a seven year old child running to meet the bus yesterday in Haines City. Vanessa Perez is expected to be okay; the driver the car – Glen McCarthy - was arrested and charged with reckless driving and most likely will face additional charges for failing to stop for a school bus.

Hillsborough County Commissioners have voted to make mass transit a top priority. At yesterday’s council session they discussed why the county is probably losing a lot of economic opportunities, since many businesses don’t want to locate here just because of that issue.

They’ve released the video of school bus driver kicking a special needs child down the stairs of her bus, and she’s been fired. Stephanie Wilkerson was arrested and pled not guilty to charges of aggravated child abuse. The little girl broke her ankle in the fall last year.

Where’s the healthiest county in Florida? Survey says its St Johns, in northeast Florida; Hillsborough comes in 31st, while Pinellas is 38th out of a total of 67. The poll from the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation took into account factors such as economic, social, behavioral, environmental, and clinical care.

There’s a new host for “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” Cedric The Entertainer will take over for Meredith Viera this fall. Ratings for the show have fallen, which premiered in 1999 with Regis as the original host.
