Florida Gov. Rick Scott delivered his third State of the State address yesterday. In his speech the governor spoke of a commitment to education, job creation and new tax relief proposals. He was about half an hour late to the podium, and was introduced for former Governor Bob Graham.

The Florida Legislature is going to take another look at the issue of texting while driving today. The Senate Communications Committee will talk about a ban when they meet today. The bill outlaws texting by drivers but police and other emergency vehicles are exempt.

They’re really not sure if that home in Palm Harbor actually has a sinkhole on the property or not. Elsie Hall’s house on Harbor Drive started shaking and cracks started showing up. Officials now think the home was just settling and she’s back in the house with her husband, who ironically works for a sinkhole company.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez had died. He was in power for 14 years, and Vice-President Nicholas Maduro is acting as interim president. They expect to hold elections for a new president within 30 days.

You have to admit it’s one of the most unique school mascots and Tarpon Springs High School’s Sponger has been selected by USA Today editors to compete for the title of High School Sports' Best Mascot. To cast your vote, which is now between five mascots from Florida, go to the USA Today high school sports website, http://bit.ly/YvgU9n.Voting will end at 3 p.m. today.

If you haven’t been to the beautiful Tampa Theater in a while, here’s a good reason to go. They’re doing a classic movie series every Sunday in April starting on the 7th with “The Princess Bride.” Other flicks include “Babe,”  “ET,” “Annie,” and “The Muppet Movie.”
