St Pete Mayor Bill Foster is still trying to save Sweetbay supermarket in the Midtown neighborhood. He went up to Gainesville yesterday to talk with Sweetbay executives, accompanied by the landlord for Tangerine Plaza, where the store is supposed to close on the 13th of February.

Pinellas County Commissioners had a chat with Ray’s owner Stu Sternberg yesterday about the future of the team. Bill Foster was at that meeting as well, not backing down on keeping the Rays to their contract at the Trop for the next 15 years. The Rays still want other options.

There’s a nasty new strain of the novivirus out there that can really knock you for a loop right in the gut. The CDC says there’s no treatment for it besides rest and fluids…and of course, keeping those hands washed.

The price of homes in the Bay area is looking better, now at their highest prices in two years. A report from Standard and Poor’s Case-Shiller Index also notes that we’re still dealing with some of the highest foreclosure rates in the nations.

A guy in Orlando still has his ‘Vette this morning, since the guys who tried to steal it had no clue how to drive a stick. The actually asked owner for a quick how-to lesson but gave up when they couldn’t even get it started.

Anyone who was stuck in the traffic backup in Sarasota yesterday might not be too excited about it, but daredevil Nick Wallenda had a few thousand people watching him make it safely across a wire 200 feet above the ground. No tether for this one, unlike his last walk across Niagara Falls.
