Cortnee Brantley was found guilty of misprision of a felony yesterday, which is failing to report a felony to authorities. But Federal Judge James Moody has not accepted that verdict – yet. Brantley is the ex-girlfriend of Dontae Morris, who is accused of killing Tampa police Officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab.

President Obama unveiled his $500 million dollar plan to help curb gun violence yesterday. The President’s proposed plan includes universal background checks and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.

In response to the President’s announcement, Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio issued a press release saying “President Obama is targeting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens instead of seriously addressing the real underlying causes of such violence”

From Democratic Senator Bill Nelson’s camp, in part his press release said  “What President Obama is proposing is not an assault on the Second Amendment. When assault rifles are used to kill children, it's time for America to act.”
