President Barack Obama will hold a press conference today around noon to discuss the future of gun control. Part of that plan is said to include a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The White House says the President will be joined by children who wrote him letters about gun violence and school safety.

At yesterday’s board meeting, the Hillsborough County School Board turned down Superintendent Mary Ellen Elia’s proposed new security plan which would have put an armed guard at every school, provided crisis management training and controlled access to school campuses. The Board did vote to hire a consultant to make recommendations on security.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri is asking for the public’s help in finding a man they consider extremely dangerous. Jamal Jenkins is facing two counts of first-degree murder and is accused of killing his girlfriend in January and a man he considered his romantic rival Monday at the Mariners Pointe apartments. Call the sheriff’s office or St Pete police with any information.

Hillsborough County detectives said their Operation Ceasefire has busted a consignment shop that was being used as a storefront to sell assault weapons and drugs. That store was right across the street from Gibsonton High School.

Facebook had big news yesterday; a new search engine to let you pore through the one trillion connections linking its billion users.  Founder Mark Zuckerberg said Graph Search Beta will make the world more open and connected by letting people navigate their connections and will let users maintain privacy settings that they have already set.

They might look impressive but they’re not going anywhere for the time being. Two of Japan’s major airline’s Boeing 787 planes were grounded for safety checks Wednesday after one was forced to make an emergency landing. That’s just the latest in a series of problems since jet service began after a delay of more than three years.
