Lockout Over for the NHL

It looks like the lockout is over. The NHL and the players' association agreed on a tentative pact to end a 113-day lockout yesterday. A start date and how many games will actually be played are still to be determined.

When Hillsborough County elementary students return to class today, an armed police officer or deputy will be on duty at each one for security purposes. That decision comes after a joint meeting between the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Tampa Police Department and school district staff.

Sheriff’s deputies that went to an Oldsmar home in response to a missing child call instead found almost 300 animals illegally kept in the home for sale and breeding. Jeffrey O'Neil and Jennifer Kovacs have been arrested and charged with child abuse and animal cruelty.

Residents of St Pete Beach will now have deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office responding to calls. The county took over law enforcement Sunday.

Tonight in Miami, it’s Alabama and Notre Dame playing the national championship. Winners in the NFL wild card games over the weekend were Houston, Green Bay, Baltimore and Seattle.

And it was Vassilios Harding, a 16-year-old junior from Tarpon Springs High School, that retrieved the cross just seconds after it hit the water Sunday traditional Epiphany Celebration cross dive at Spring Bayou.
