Just before 11 last night, the House passed a bill to avoid the fiscal cliff. That bill will now go to the President for his signature. The bill passed 257-167, with a majority of Democrats supporting the bill, but many Republicans voting against it saying it did not have enough spending cuts.

Hillsborough County deputies busted a cockfighting ring in action Tuesday morning in Plant City. They had been called to the home on Greenway Drive before for the same complaint, and arrested Guadalupe Herrera and Peggy Cole, along with ten others. Deputies believe its part of a nationwide ring and Herrera will face several felony charges and could face up to five years in prison.

A woman watching the fireworks on New Year’s Eve in downtown St Pete from a balcony at the Yacht Club was hit in the wrist by a stray bullet. Laurie Eberhardt was struck her right wrist and was treated at Bayfront Medical Center. Police believe the bullet was from a large caliber rifle, but have no suspects or witnesses to the shooting.

Florida State beat Northern Illinois last night by a score of 31-10 for an Orange Bowl victory. And at the Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium, South Carolina took the win against Michigan in the last 11 seconds. It was a 32-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Dylan Thompson to receiver Bruce Ellington for the 33-28 win.

The first Bay area baby of 2013 made his debut just 13 seconds after midnight on New Years’ Day at Mease Countryside Hospital. Baylin Henry Konitzer weighed in at eight pounds and is the first child for Monica Johnson and Steven Konitzer.

And 86 year old Hugh Heffner is a married man. Heffner exchanged vows with Crystal Harris, at a private Playboy Mansion ceremony on New Year's Eve. Harris, who is 26-year-old broke off a previous engagement to Hefner just before they were to be married in 2011.
