St Pete City Council approved the sale of Bayfront Medical Center to Health Management Associates yesterday. HMA will have 80% controlling interest, while the newly formed nonprofit association Bayfront Health, Education and Research Organization takes 20%. Bayfront was the county’s last independent hospital and level one trauma center.

The new Pier project has a new tenant. Richard Gonzmart along with many from the Columbia Restaurant family announced yesterday they would build a new Columbia on the approach to the Pier. They also plan a smaller place on The Lens, the new design for the Pier.

A New Port Richey man was busted for making 250 bomb threat calls to Richey and Chasco schools. Chad Key faces two felony counts and two misdemeanor charges.

The newest proposed stadium site for the Rays is inYbor City along Nuccio Parkway. The owner of the Tampa Parks apartment complex has said she’s like to sell the land for a stadium site. But the city of St Pete is still threatening to sue anyone that they think violates the present contract that is in effect at the Trop through 2027.

Evan Longoria is a new dad. It’s a girl – no name yet – and mom Jamie Edmonson is doing fine. Rays manager Joe Maddon said Longoria texted him Wednesday after labor was induced early. The baby was due April 1^st.
