Bayfront Medical Center will be sold to Health Management Associates for $162 million. HMA gets 80% control, Bayfront takes the remaining 20%, most of which will toward creating a nonprofit research and education foundation.

That crippled Carnival cruise ship is finally back in port in Mobile, and the 4,000 passengers and crew had the options of a seven-hour bus ride to the Texas cities of Galveston – the home port for the ship -  Houston or a two-hour trip to New Orleans. Carnival is offering full refunds and discounts on future cruises, and an additional $500 in compensation.

American and US Airways have officially merged and now some cities are worried they won’t be a hub for what will become the world’s biggest airline. US Airways CEO Doug Parker has said the combined airline will keep all eight hubs but if you go by past mergers that may not be the case.

Snowbirds received a shock from the DMV – they now need an international driving permit. The law went into effect on the first for anyone from Canada and foreign visitors who say they’ve heard nothing about it. But it may not matter. Now the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles are saying the law may violate an international treaty.
