The Tampa Bay Times reports the vote on the sale of Bayfront Medical Center might be as early as next week. St Pete City Council must approve the sale and lease since the Center is on city property. City council members will discuss the lease today at an agenda review session.

The formal merger of US Airways and American Airlines may be announced today. The two companies’ boards agreed to the merger yesterday. If the merger does go through US Airways CEO Doug Parker says it would have the largest market share east of the Rockies.

Two former senior management officials at the Tradewinds Resort now face embezzlement charges. Sam Baage, the TradeWinds' former chief financial officer and Harold James, the resort's former director of information technology allegedly took almost $800,000 and were fired last year when the theft was discovered. Both are in custody.

Take it easy on those slick streets. Police believe they were partially responsible for an accident last night when a woman, was on the phone to a friend trying to get directions, drove off the boat ramp into the water at the Lowry Park Zoo. Migdalia Mendoza later died at St Joe’s.

New life for the old Florida courthouse in Tampa. The historic building off Florida Avenue is about to become a four star hotel. A developer will spend $25 million to transform the old courthouse into the Meridien Hotel, and should be complete next spring.
