A pilot from Odessa who was on his first flight crashed his ultralight plane Sunday morning at the Pilot County Airport in Land O Lakes airport and died after the plane became tangled in power lines. He was identified as 53 year old William Athey.

And another ultralight pilot from Hernando County also died Sunday morning after he crashed shortly after taking off from the airport. Christopher Washington appeared to be in trouble from the moment it took off.

Two people in Pasco that decided it was a good idea to hide in a K Mart after it closed and rip off a bunch of electronics were caught after a chase that ended in a crash with deputies. They had set off the alarm three times in the store, but the store appeared to be locked when deputies checked. The chase started when an employee came and checked things out and saw the two in the store. Only Claude Swick was caught, the second suspect is still on the run.

First Lady Michelle Obama will be in Tallahassee today. And the President will appear Thursday  and his opponent Mitt Romney will appear Wednesday at forums on education and the future of the Hispanic community at the University of Miami’s BankUnited Center Fieldhouse.

Some pretty unhappy Elton John fans at the show premiering the newly renovated Sundome at USF Friday night. Thanks to those renovations, their seats didn’t exist. Those fans were stuck in line and asking for refunds.

The Bucs lost to the Giants yesterday 41-34; the Rays lost two out of three to the Yankees, yesterday by a score of 6-4 and are back at the Trop for four games with Boston starting tonight, and the NHL lockout became official at midnight Saturday.

Scallop season is drawing to a close; the season was extended this year by two weeks, with the last day one week from today, on the 24th. They haven’t decided yet is the season will be extended again next year.
