A student from Boca Ciega High School has been arrested for having a loaded gun in his backpack on campus yesterday. Gulfport police took the 11th grader into protective custody and will face charges for bringing a firearm on school property. A female had received text messages from the boy threatening others.

Former President Bill Clinton formally nominated President Obama for a second term at the DNC last night, with the President joining him onstage at the end of the speech. Tonight, it’s former Florida Governor Charlie Crist along with Vice President Joe Biden, capped off with President Obama accepting the nomination on a much smaller, indoor venue then was originally planned, due to what organizers say is expected bad weather.

Police in Melbourne arrested a 21 year old man dressed as the Joker when he tried to come into a movie theater. The theater manager called police when Christopher Sides of Cocoa tried to come in after he bought tickets for “The Expendables,” and was later arrested on an outstanding warrant.

No sweep for the Rays against New York, as the Yankees win 6-4. The Yankees are now back in first place after Baltimore lost toToronto yesterday, also 6-4. The Rays are 2 ½ games in back of New York.

The nation says goodbye to the first man to walk on the moon with a service at Washington National Cathedral on Thursday the 13th; the service for Neil Armstrong will be streamed live through the NASA television, as well as the space agency and cathedral’s web sites.

President Obama will be in town Saturday. He’s scheduled to speak at the Seminole Campus of St Pete College at Natural Habitat Field. The event is free, and tickets will be distributed starting at 5 pm today at locations that include the college campus. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. They are available at the campus University Partnership Center.Tickets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday Sept. 5.  To pick up your ticket, visit one of the following locations:
