If you receive a letter that says you may not be eligible to vote because you may not be a legal US citizen, election officials want you to first of all, ignore it. It’s a hoax. And secondly, hang on to it for evidence. The letters are showing up all across the state, including the Bay area, and they are believed to be a scare tactic to keep people from voting.

Two tropical storms out there this morning with Sandy and Tony which are both expected to come nowhere near the Bay area. But we’ll be feeling at least the effects of Sandy with our windy weather and increasing chance for rain.

A Port of Tampa dockworker died in an accident yesterday. Four men were in the hold of a ship that was loading steel pipes when a harness broke. One worker, 56-year-old Hercules Gilmore, of St. Petersburg, was killed. A second unidentified worker was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A seven year old Polk County boy is recovering from injuries he received after being struck by a car and dragged under it for thirty feet. Nathan Hoogerwerff is going to be fine, and the 16 year old driver, who thought he’d run over a backpack, has not been charged. Nathan’s mother has contacted an attorney and plans her own legal action.

A public memorial service is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the chapel at Eckerd College for Army Spc. Brittany B. Gordon, who died from injuries caused by a suicide bomber in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She was the daughter of Brenda Gordon and St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon.

President Barack Obama will hold a rally Thursday morning in Ybor City, at the State Museum in Centennial Park, which will open at 7 a.m. The event is free, but tickets are required.

And it’s the Detroit Tigers and the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. Game one is tonight in San Francisco.
