A public memorial service is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the chapel at Eckerd College for Army Spc. Brittany B. Gordon, who died from injuries caused by a suicide bomber in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She was the daughter of Brenda Gordon and St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon. Her body will be escorted from MacDill Air Force Base around noon today.

The third and final debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney took place last night in Boca Raton with foreign affairs the main topic. Bob Schieffer moderated the debate that had a little less of the finger pointing and interrupting than last weeks. But plenty of disagreeing.

The body of an eleven year old girl with Down syndrome who wandered away from Rogers Middle School in Riverview, triggering an Amber Alert, was found in a pond directly in back of the school. Jennifer Caballero’s behavior had been of concern to teachers earlier in the day and the staff said they had been keeping a close eye on her. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office is investigating.

One FAMU band member and the first defendant in the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion has been sentenced to probation. Brian Jones must perform 200 hours of community service, attend a four hour hazing court and be under community control with a probation officer.

The deal with Lighting Owner Jeff Vinick to buy Channelside is not happening. Vinick and his partners decided not to proceed and cited confusion over the current owner’s ability to match any offer on the property.
