The daughter of St Pete Assistant Police Chief Cedric Gordon was killed in action in Afghanistan. Specialist Brittany Gordon was 24, and was scheduled to return home in just a few months. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Another ultralight crash takes two lives in Winter Haven over the weekend. Susanne Broadbelt of Zephyrhills died when the plane went down shortly after takeoff at Winter Haven Municipal airport, and Gary Lawrence of Inverness died later at the hospital. The crash is under investigation.

He did it! Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner broke the speed of sound, during his record-setting jump from 128,000 feet Sunday over southeastern New Mexico. It was not the longest-lasting free fall. His team in Mission Control said during the jump that Baumgartner did not break the record for time elapsed before he pulled his parachute.
