When I heard the story about the runner from Robinson High School being hit with in the face and eye with an egg while jogging on Bayshore Blvd. this weekend, I heard my parent's voices; “Sure, you think it’s funny, until someone gets hurt.” Truer words never spoken. Someone saw a bunch of kids buying five dozen eggs at the Wal Mart on Gandy, and thought that was a little suspicious and told police. Good move. It led to 3 teens being arrested and facing aggravated battery charges. The injury to 17-year old Noah Grant is no joke. Broken bones around the eye, a scratched cornea, and they’re hoping the damage is not permanent. Oh, and that same egg-throwing group? They actually came back around and threw more eggs at the group of cross country runners. If you’re so bored that this was the only thing you could think to do over Memorial Day weekend, I have a lot of ideas for volunteering that would make much better use of your time.
I know that story probably raised your blood pressure a bit. What are your thoughts? Send me a note at ann.kelly@coxmg.com.
