Maybe I’d better knock off the all the baking…the latest from researchers at Duke University say that by 2030, 42 percent of people in the U.S will be obese, and they define that as carrying more than 80 pounds of extra weight.  It sounds like they’re paying attention in Massachusetts, as what we all grew up with and loved – the bake sale – will be banned. Health officials continue to fight what they call crisis-level obesity in our children.

But there are those that do not have enough to eat in our own neighborhood, and you can help. This Saturday, 2012 RCS Food Bank expects to receive 100,000 pounds of food through the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Each year Letter Carriers leave donation bags in residents’ mailboxes.  Residents are asked to place non-perishable foods in the bag for their regular mail delivery. RCS Food Bank, located at 700 Druid Road in Clearwater, serves over 5,500 people each month and is need of volunteers to help sort food during the Letter Carriers' Food Drive. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteer shifts on May 12th are 1:30-3:30pm, 3-5pm & 5-7:30pm.To volunteer please contact Deb Gatley at 584-3528 ext 407 or deb.gatley@RCSpinellas.org . Thanks for helping this fine group, which I happen to serve on the Board of Directors. Something on your mind? Send your emails directly to me ann.kelly@coxmg.com.
