Two little words; call ahead. The first major winter storm has made a mess of travel. Blizzard like conditions are cancelling many flights. But behind that storm is another storm that will kick in around Christmas Day.

It took about three hours, but St Pete City Council has decided to keep the red light cameras. Mayor Bill Foster wants to add an additional nine cameras. Last week’s report found that crashes at the 22 intersections where cameras are mounted were up 10 percent between November 2011 and October 2012, and a story in the Times says rear-end crashes have increased at those intersections.

The National Rifle Association has scheduled a press conference for 10:45 am today. Since the mass shootings in Newtown their website and twitter feeds were silent on the tragedy, and issued a statement of condolence for the families four days after the shootings. During this morning’s press conference the NRA is expected to address calls for tighter gun restrictions.

A trial date is set for Julie Schenecker, who’s accused of murdering her two children in their Tampa Palms home in 2011. That trial date is October 7, 2013. The judge handling the case says they expect to release more evidence by spring.

The Air Force is asking ESPN for help analyzing massive amounts of hours in drone footage. They figure if those guys can sort through all that game day footage as quickly as they do, the drone footage shouldn’t be too challenging. The visit between the Air Force and ESPN did help with further developing skill and expertise for the Air Force.

Guess the Mayan Calendar was a bit off, since we’re all still here. Police did have some concerns about overcrowding and possible stampedes during celebrations at Mayan ruin sites. But Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History thinks historical calculations to synchronize the Mayan and Western calendars might be off a few days, and the Mayan Long Count calendar cycle might not really end until Sunday.
