Hikers, equestrians, bird-watchers, and nature lovers are invited to help celebrate the opening of Hillsborough County’s Lower Green Swamp Preserve and its newest hiking and equestrian trail. The event will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. The Lower Green Swamp Preserve (formerly known as Cone Ranch) is located at 3536 E. Knights Griffin Road in Plant City.
The event will take place at the foot of a new, multipurpose bridge overlooking one of many tributaries linking the property to Florida’s famous Green Swamp. During the event, Hillsborough County Commissioners and other special guests will participate in a tree-planting at the preserve.
As part of the celebration, Hillsborough County’s Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is also hosting an event at the Lower Green Swamp Preserve on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Family-friendly activities include hands-on tree plantings, guided hiking tours and hayrides. Planting volunteers should bring gardening gloves, and children can even tag their trees.
Both events are open to the public. Comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended for all visitors to this rustic paradise. For more information on Lower Green Swamp Preserve and grand opening week activities, visit www.hillsboroughcounty.org/parks or call 813-672-7876.
