Ranger Naturalist ProgramA Bright Futures Program at Weedon Island Please join us for this interest meeting to learn what the Ranger Naturalist Program at Weedon Island Preserve is all about! The Ranger Naturalist Program at Weedon Island Preserve is supported through the University of Florida Pinellas County Extension. High school students (ages 15-18) will work with Faculty and staff to develop an enjoyable and meaningful volunteer experience. Our Mission is to provide a service learning opportunity for youth to build leadership skills and environmental awareness. The program will run from June Saturday, June 15th through Saturday, August 17, 2013. During the 9 week program, students will be expected to complete their necessary volunteer hours, working an average of 8-12 hours per week. All volunteers will be trained to assist guests that are visiting the Education Center and trails, as well as develop individual projects that support the mission of the Center. There will be training modules and assessments along the way to check your knowledge of the material. Our main objectives are:· To assist with guided tours, exhibit tours, programs, main office, and help desk.· To learn the diverse ecosystems of the Preserves.· To use your knowledge to teach visitors, and others.· Develop customer service and interpretive skills.· To develop leadership skills through a self-directed project.
