Going Coastal: Secrets of Sand If you looks closely at sand from our beaches or seafloors, it tells a story. Sand can be made of broken up rocks or shells. One of the most intriguing but little talked about components of sand are foraminifera, or forams. Forams are microscopic, shelled organisms that live throughout the world's oceans. Forams are important tools for scientists. We can study their preserved shells and get clues about past climates. And we can look at the health of certain types of forams (pictured) and get clues about the health of coral reef ecosystems! Join this program to learn about the "Secret" world of Forams. Lab will include hands on investigation of live samples and sand samples under the microscope. Program best suited for ages 10 and older.
