Beginning Word Course Description:This three hour class is a hands-on training session that will cover basic features of Microsoft Word. The class will use real world business problems as the focus for teaching all the concepts and students will do an exercise after each topic to practice what they have learned.
NOTE: You must cancel at least 72 hours before the workshop begins to get a refund!Prerequisites:Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, Mouse Usage, and Typing (30 WPM)Course Topics:1. Run Microsoft Word2. Customize Word Settings· Set default folder for word to open or store documents· Set Autosave option to automatically save your file every N minutes3. Display or hide toolbars and the ruler4. Explain the purpose of the cursor5. Default Tab Stops6. Type text into a document7. Explain how to create and end paragraphs8. Explain the paragraph autowrap feature9. Save a document for the first time and give it a name10. Save additions/changes in a document11. Use Thesaurus to find synonyms11. Spellcheck document13. Close a document14. Exit Microsoft Word15. Open an existing document to edit it16. Insert special characters, such as a copyright symbol.17. Highlight text to be operated on (e.g. format, position, cut, copy, etc.)18. Format text (font, font size, bold, italicize, underline, text color,text,background color superscript, subscript, etc.)19. Add Borders and Shading to text20. Position text in a paragraph (align left, center, align right, or justify/block)21. Cut text out of a document (to remove unwanted text during editing)22. Learn control keys on keyboard or doing a Cut (work in any Windows program)23. Copy and paste text in a document (to move data from one location to another when editing)24. Learn control keys on keyboard for Copy and Paste (work in any Windows program)25. Search for a word or phrase in a document26. Make global changes to words or phrases throughout a document27. Create numbered lists28. Create bulleted lists29. Use the Ruler- Show and hide the Ruler- Set user defined tabs and customize the tab type (left, right, center, decimal, bar)- Set paragraph first line indent- Set left/hanging indent (for numbered and bulleted lists)30. Set Page Breaks to control where text terminates on a page31. Change document setup for display and printing- Set the paper orientation (portrait or landscape)- Change the size of the margins (top and bottom and/or left and right)- Change the size of the page header and footer32. Preview what the printed result of a document will look like- Zoom in to full spreadsheet full size- View and alter margins33. Print out a copy of a document
